Into The Mystic

"Hark, now hear the sailors' cry!
Smell the sea and feel the sky,
Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic."
Van Morrison - Into The Mystic

Thank you so much everyone for a fantastic year. It's been a crazy first year blogging, and though it may not seem like it, it's meant a lot to me. You can bet that I plan on riding out 2012 with you all, too.

(Caitlyn, Caroline, and I wish you all a phenomenal New Year!)

Today's obsessions:
~Young Justice (new) and Teen Titans (reruns)
~Ed Sheeran
~Cocoa eye shadow
~Winter princess nails (see next post)
~Strawberry Daiquiri flavored SoBe
~Blue Valentine (got it for Christmas, I've watched it 5 times since then. :3)

I just got this red sun dress and the weather is supposed to be in the mid 50s tonight, so I think I'll take it for a spin. Expect to see me hamming it up next post. ;D

Also, I've gotten a few messages from people asking me to start up a vlog on youtube. I don't know, should I? It really threw me for a loop and now I'm seriously considering it. Mayhaps 2012 will be the year I break the youtube barrier with you all? Eh, who knows? Message me or something on your thoughts, please.

Finally, I leave you with a video that is just a prime example of awesome friendship to me. I mean, how have my friends and I not built a giant slingshot-harness, dressed in loud outfits, had a slow-motion water balloon fight, and then proceeded to make it into a viral video set to a great song yet? Really, it makes me wonder . . .

Bust Your Kneecaps

"Johnny you told me,
You were no fool, you were no chump,
Then you got cold feet,
Now all you'll be is a speed bump."
Pomplamoose - Bust Your Kneecaps

So my lovely older sister Erin just turned 21 today. Gah! I feel so old (if that makes any sense)!

Also, Finals are coming up in school and I'm not freaking per say, just afflicted with a healthy dose of fear. *sweat drop* Really, I'm fairly confident in all of my classes, just not my Math class. I have always struggled with Math, it just never made much sense to me. I'm usually a straight A student, but Math just tarnishes that with a C every single time. :/

(I was out the door to my friend Taylor's birthday party, hence the gift bag.)

Blue Babydoll - Old Navy
Charcoal Wrap - Charlotte Russe
Biker Booties - Wet Seal
Nautical Pendent - Charlotte Russe
Brooch - Flea Market

Oh! And here is my new nail polish caddy!

(I've got them all lined up according to color on and above the shelves, plus some ipod speakers on top. My nail art pens are tucked away in their package between the caddy and the restroom wally/counter. The row in front consists of OPI Shatter, glitter/sequin, thin tipped polishes for detailing, and my clear polish. I am SO happy right now. ^^)

Zorbing

"Lying in your attic I can feel the static,
The storm has broken,
Heavens  open, so electrifying,
Lost my heart between the sheets of lightening."
Stornoway - Zorbing

Hello, all!
There is a fantastic nip in the air, it's raining more frequently, and to top it off, the leaves are changing. To say the least, I love Autumn and Winter. :) These are my two favorite photos I snapped from my neighborhood.

Also, my mom just bought me a nail polish shelf/caddy for my bathroom and I am beyond stoked to finally organize everything. Expect a photo of that ASAP.

Promises

"And you keep telling me,
Telling me that you will be sweet,
And you will never want to leave my side."
Nero - Promises

Mint Ripple Supplies:
~ OPI clear coat
~ Sally Hansen Minty Sorbet
~ Black Migi Nail Art Pen

My friend Caroline and I before we had our girls' night on Halloween. She was a French witch and I was decked out in 60s Mod wear. Haha, trick-or-treating is something we don't plan to give up till college, so next year will be our last time. But you know how our night went this time?

Sugar High -> Candy Coma -> Halloween Hangover

Now my hair is still a tad damp from the rain outside, but this is the best photo I could take of it. It's naturally got really thick waves to it, but today I decided to rock my natural hair. I don't know, I kind of like it this way, so I may start letting my self sleep in an extra 25 minutes and stop straightening it. Woot! More sleep! ^_^

Single again (never date an ex, there is a reason you broke up in the first place), and loving all of my girl time. Note to self: only date if the guy trumps raw cookie dough and Dance Central all-nighters with friends. <3

Waste

"I'll hold your hand when you are feeling mad at me,
When the monster they won't go,
And your windows won't close,
I'll pretend to see what you see."
Foster The People - Waste

Well the weather here is absolutely lovely lately, what with all of the leaves changing and rainy days (be excited!).

On a more interesting note, here are a few of my latest nail designs these past few weeks:

These are the tip of the iceberg in what I can do nail-wise, so I'll post more next post. Also, this new dress I just love! Since my last post, there have been a lot of long road trips to St. Louis and intense testing, so sweats/jeans and band tees have been my staples, unfortunately. Now that things have sufficiently calmed down, my posts and outfit photos will be more regular.

Obsessions this week:
~ *Nutella and Cinnamon Grahams
~ Foster the People (before Pumped Up Kicks)
~ Blistex Silk & Shine
~Ankle Boots
~ **The New 52
~ Carole King

* I recently discovered that I am allergic to hazelnut and break out in hives if I have more than a few bites of it. I just make sure to take a Benadryl beforehand and the hives are manageable. Haha, do I have a bit of a problem? Yes. Should someone intervene? Probably. :)

** The New 52 is DC Comic's revamping of fifty-two of their most popular series to accommodate newer readers by essentially starting over with them. From what I can tell, there will be a lot of story line changes, and as a comic book nerd, I have some very mixed feelings about that. Also, what happened to Wally West?! As it stands right now, he is absent from all of the new story lines. This is not okay. -_-

So, I leave you with a photo of me discovering Singamajigs whilst clad in unflattering sweats and hoodie.

Oh, yeah, and I'm trying things with Tyler again. Ah, dating an ex . . . *sweat drop*

Gimme Sympathy

"Talk like an open book,
Sign me up,
Got no time to take a picture,
I'll remember someday all the chances we took."
Metric - Gimme Sympathy

So the 60 degree rainy weather has finally graced us with its presence and I am ecstatic, especially with an outdoor campus. ^^ I just don't see why so many people fuss over cold weather. I mean, it's when I can break out my omni-present cardigans more casually and bake snickerdoodles/sip hot cocoa to my liking. What's wrong with that?

Oh, and here is that manicure I promised last post:

(I will admit that this was not my cleanest work, but I blame the hangnails I forgot to pluck.)

To get this surprisingly easy newsprint look, keep scrolling:

1.) Cover your nails in a clear base coat so as to protect your nails.

2.) Do two coats (depending on your nail polish) of a light, neutral color, such as my Fiji Weegee Fawn by OPI. <3

3.) Pour a small amount of Antiseptic rubbing alcohol into a dish.

4.) Have a piece of newspaper at the ready. It does not take much, nor does it matter what it says, as it will show up partial and backwards regardless.

5.) One completely dried (and without a clear coat on top), dip one nail flat into the dish and quickly and firmly press the newsprint words to your nail for about ten seconds.

6.) Carefully peel back the paper and be careful not to smudge like I did with my middle finger.

7.) Apply clear coat so the ink does not rub off and repeat process for the rest of your nails.

Also, lately I've gotten into rewatching all of the episodes of Batman: The Animated Series & The Batman. My Graphic Novel class is taught by my favorite teacher and I'm learning a ton about superheroes (which is really saying something, if you know my nerdier side), so it was only natural that it would have me prowling around the roots of two of my Top Five Heroes: Batman and Nightwing/Original Robin.

Just for yucks, here are my Top Five Heroes (in no particular order, mind you):

*Nightwing (grown-up, original Robin, Dick Grayson)
*Batman
*Flash (3rd, Wally West)
*Daredevil
*Spiderman (he and Daredevil were biffles, just saying)

L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.

"Lisa likes brandy and the way it hits her lips,
She's a rock 'n' roll survivor with pendulum hips,
She's got deep brown eyes,
That've seen it all."
Noah & The Whale - L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.

I just went shopping for some new jeans and am currently in the market for some good sneakers for this Fall, but this lacy, high-necked top called out to me.

(Not the best shot of me, but I do love my outfit. Oh, and this is me when I don't straighten my hair.)

Cardigan - H&M
Lacy Tank - Kohls
Headband - Charlotte Russe
Pendent - Antique store

Oh, and in the past few weeks, I have seriously gone to town with my nail art pens. Check out the All Stars!

Personally, I cannot wait to see this movie. The soundtrack alone has me intrigued.

New Romantic

"I've got this friend who sounds just like him,
He's the man I'd leave you for,
The man that I adore just like you."
Laura Marling - New Romantic

Hiya, chickadees!

This past Labor Day weekend, I went to this HUGE flea market up in Sparks, Kansas. The population is just under 100, I think, but over 300 vendors/buyers (like yours truly) flock there once a year to this field in about the center of it for said flea market. I got three broaches for my collection and matching clip-on earrings with one all for $12. Oh, and mushroom corn kettle corn. Sounds funky, tastes delicious. :)

(I just had to stop the car to check out these wild sunflowers!)

(I have never seen a motorcycle this cool.)

(The Chiefs license plate alone makes me regret not buying this bike.)

(I contend that the price tag said $7, not $700 . . .)

(This was in gorgeous condition and came fully stocked with filled glass Pepsi bottles. It only I had had the $350 up front. T_T)

(Part of the flea market was in this little old lady's idyllic backyard.)

(Mushroom corn kettle corn! Nom nom nom!)

Well, I have been swamped with my art classes lately. I am taking Drawing 2, in which we are currently working with charcoal, and Studio Art, where I am given free reign, so long as I finish 5 projects by the end of December. To say the least, I have been engrossed in it all and I promise to upload my favorites.

(My biffle Caitlyn had a few of us over to help paint her new shelf from light brown to white. Lol, check out Caroline's smiley face knee.)

(One of my other biffles Caroline. God, but do I love her!)

(My cat Gabby turned 14 on the 1st this month and I got this great action shot of her enjoying her birthday tuna. :3)

Finally, I am will post again in just a few minutes. I really wanted to get this stuff out of the way before I go back to how I usually blog.

Many of Horror

"You say "I love you, boy."
I know you lie.
I trust you all the same,
I don't know why."
Biffy Clyro - Many of Horror

So here is a summation of my day today: Nutella Feast + The Princess Bride + Migi Nail Art Pens = Crazy wicked end to my birthweek (to my knowledge)! :3

(Cross-body purse with vintage French postcard design from Nanny. <3)

Caitlyn got me my long sought after Migi Nail Art Pens today!

(A blurry shot of my nails with white Shatter nail polish over some lilac OPI. I decided that Shatter's instructions were pretty simple and didn't need a tutorial.)

(First, remove all nail polish and apply a clear coat to protect your natural nail.)

(Next, apply two coats of a color of your choosing. I chose this mint green.)

(Then, draw little red, random blobs on your nails with either a nail art pen or the end of a bobby pin.)

(Finally, add tiny pink swirls and two or three leaves on each rose and a coat of clear. Voila! Veni vidi vici! You have yourself a handful of rosebuds!)

Also, a few friends of mine who could not go to my birthday dinner last week surprised me today by taking me out to lunch and we ended up having a Nutella Feast and watching The Princess Bride

(What have we learned today? Best. Birthweek. EVER! =D)

Haha, anyway, I leave you with Cobra Starship's new song that has me giggling as I play it on repeat. The best kind of love songs are silly and personal, I think. ^^

Here Comes The Sun

"Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here."
The Beatles - Here Comes The Sun

Hiya!

Well, as stated in my previous post, last monday was my birthday and I turned 17.Woot! But what I didn't mention, was that it has morphed into something of a "birthweek." You see, my family and I had dinner the night before (Sunday), and most of my friends hung out with me on my birthday and the few following days. Those who could not come out with us have sent me my presents by mail or are making plans with me for lunches the next few days, so you can see how it would not fit to call this year's a mere birthday.

These are a few things I recently got for said birthweek:

(Burgundy lace tiered tank-top - Charlotte Russe)

(Faux-leather, flat bottomed boots - Wet Seal)

(Cream, mummy-wrapped ballet flats - Charlotte Russe)

I also just got this beautiful purse from my grandma and a scarf from my dad (inadvertently), so expect to see them soon. Also, I will upload a photographic tutorial on using Shatter by OPI (found on my thumb in the photo above) and soon after, the Rosebuds.

Back in Blue!

"All we need is a little bit of momentum,
Breakdown these walls that we've built around ourselves,
All we need is a little bit of inertia,
Breakdown and tell."
The Hush Sound - Momentum

Hi, lovely people!

I have many stories, photos, and updates to share with you as soon as possible. I have hardly had time to breath this summer, let alone touch my computer all that much, so many apologies for the few weeks we lost contact.

To start, I turned 17 on August (last monday)!!! :3

The family and I had my favorites the day before: red velvet cake with coffee-flavored cool whip (made by my mom) and some sort of java ice cream. ^^

I had a little shindig with some friends and I was blown away with how much effort they put into my night. About a dozen or so of us went to my favorite restaurant and were startled by the deceptively loud wait staff when they sang to me, later saw Captain America (really good, I cried!), and eventually ended up at our usual coffee bar. Everyone is usually on vacation on my birthday, so this really got to me that they all tried to make it so special for me. Here are a few unorganized photos from the night, courtesy of my NEW NIKON COOLPIX DIGITAL CAMERA IN PLUM (I shall call her Mona)!

(From left to right: Caitlyn, Taylor, and me. My eyes are bugging unattractively from the flash of our second attempt to take this photo, lol.)

(From left to right: Me, Kelli, and Sammie)

(Caitlyn is my best friend and we startle quite easily, if you couldn't tell. X])

Oh, and I have a few new outfits to show you, which will be so much easier to post now with Mona in my purse at the ready. I am seriously going to commit now to regular posting, like I did when I first started out.

Also, I want to start doing regular nail tutorials. These past two months or so, I have become obsessed with nail art, and you can bet I will channel that into something productive, aside from new cute nail looks every week.

Well, anyway, it's late and I just needed to say all of that before I burst. So until we meet again (tomorrow)!

Skip The Charades

"To keep your sense of humor intact,
Let's skip the charades,
You're seeing right through me anyway,
Can we just speak plain?"
Cold War Kids - Skip The Charades

This has been a very hectic summer. A few mini road trips and not much time to get anything done. What I do  have to show for it will be some cute new outfits after I finish splurging next week. Oh, and my response to an interesting prompt from Sydney.

Prompt: "A girl knows she is getting broken up with before it happens."

Say It

I want to see you say it. Say what we both know is hanging in the air between us like cigarette smoke that burns your eyes and coats your throat and makes everything uncomfortable. I want to see your lips form the belated words you have already said silently a dozen times when you squeeze my hand suddenly or look me uneasily in the eyes with a forced smile. It would be the first truly honest thing you have said to me in weeks, I suspect. I want to see you say it, because I cannot hear anything over my inexorable heartbeat pulsing noisily in my ears. I need validation to what we both feel, but neither of us can muster the courage to say: you don't love me anymore. Which raises the question of if you ever did. However, I bear no interest in that corner of the conversation, as I would be a genuine masochist if I went there. We sit here at the table across from one another, sodas untouched and sweating. You look uncomfortable as you try to find your voice and I cannot swallow this awful lump in my throat. I will offer no reprisal, just say it already and be my undoing.

Send me more prompts and I promise more optimism. :) Yay or nay on this one?

I swear, Pretty Little Liars is going to give me a stomach ulcer. I've read the books, but obviously the plot line a bit different. Ugh, why can't there be two or three episodes a week? Oh, and despite my best efforts, I am now becoming addicted to Switched At Birth, too. I hate getting sucked into too many shows at once, but I could not find my remote and five back-to-back episodes later, I'm officially hooked. >_<

I hope that you had a really good 4th of July. Mine was, except for my dad slightly burning his finger on a firecracker lol.

A Kiss With A Fist

"A kick in the teeth is good for some,
A kiss with a fist is better then none."
Florence and the Machines - A Kiss With A Fist

I was kind of surprised by the poll results this month, but I keep good on my promises, so here is something I've been working on. A reader shot me an e-mail with a list of prompts to choose from and challenged me to write a paragraph about one. I chose number two and ran with it.

Prompt #2: "Write about falling for a guy (literally!) and add as many angsty details as possible. Oh, and can it be from 1st person?"

I Fell For You

My knees came into contact with my driveway and were overcome with the too-hot friction between flesh and old cement. My face was as warm as my hands were red from catching myself as it flushed with embarrassment. I moved to stand up, my eyes shying downwards, when I noticed your old sneakers come into view and stop in front of me, felt your hand on my shoulder gently but firmly keep me in place on the ground. You squatted down in front of me and I willed myself to suck it up and look at you. My heart went into overdrive when I was met by fierce emeralds, crinkling at the ends as I noticed you fighting a smile (for my sake) and asked me the standard "Are you okay?" I nodded and noticed when I tried to stand again that your hand had not moved from my shoulder and again kept me down. You were holding a fast food cup in your other hand, I deflated a bit when you removed your hand from my shoulder to fish around in the drink till you produced an ice cube. You told me to show you my hands and knees, which were still aflame, as were my cheeks, and I did, sitting back on my butt. You pressed the ice cube to each scraped area and my body twitched each time, a low hiss escaping from my lips like the one I could all but hear coming from my skin. Along with both the former and the latter burns I was receiving came a third and all too familiar one; the kind of burn that is not instantaneous, but sneaks up out of nowhere and pricks you first and builds in your stomach to stew. Your first plan of action is to just ignore it, but you cannot ignore it. It continues to build and build and eventually causes your joints to ache with a throbbing need for something, like your brain knows that you should not want that something, but the rest of your body is caught in a barely muffled scream of "Yes, you really should!" This particular Want Burn is one that everyone feels at least once in their lives and is lucky if they acquiesce. My want in question was my older brother's life-long best friend, the man, you, squatting not a foot away from me. I was acutely aware of the fact that your skin was still touching my skin during my revelry. After the ice had done its job of eventually soothing the afflicted areas, you grabbed my less damaged hand mostly by the wrist and hoisted me up with ease before I could register your actions, eliciting a surprised squeak from me. You released your grasp and I was left mesmerized by the way you smiled at me, heartbreakingly refulgent, your eyebrow quirked. You asked if my brother was home and I breathlessly told you yes and then you said that you would go up to his room and mess with him after I had had my "soon-to-be gnarly battle scars" actually cleaned and bandaged. I followed you into my house and felt a fresh wave of the Want Burn hit me, this time radiating in my newly scraped knees as I felt them grow weak when you kept the door open for me. I fell for you a long time ago, but never had I been happier to fall in front of you if it meant I could carve out this bit of time with you, however minuscule a moment it really was.

Well, what do you think? I didn't edit it, I just dove in head first. It was fun to stretch my writing muscles, feel free to send me more prompts and I might use them.

Also, this week I was on stumbleupon and found these two videos, they are too cute! I hope my kids are this into music when I'm older. ^^
